4/30/2023 0 Comments Broken roads cordsIn an upbeat context, this progression turns from sad to serious. Played slowly, it tends to create a melancholy feel over which a powerful melody can be sung. The basic structure of Eagle-Eye Cherry’s “Save Tonight” relies on this progression. Though quite simplistic, this chord progression is one of my favorites. I don’t think it would work in an upbeat rock song, mind you. This is a good “anticipatory” chord progression, and it tends to evoke similar feelings at most speeds (probably because of the sophistication of the chords). Also, the guitarist carries the bass note from the slash chord into the VI chord briefly before moving up the bass line. In that song, the VI chord basically lasts two measures while the V and vi chords get half a bar each. To my surprise, this is basically the same chord progression used in the chorus to Don Henley’s “New York Minute” except with different timing. And I thought I’d discovered something relatively unique. I’ve used this chord progression in a couple of my songs (especially since they were quite similar thematically). The progression starts to sound even more mature if you turn the V into a suspended chord, and the vi into a m7. The progression wouldn’t sound the same without the first slash chord. The E bass note is basically anticipating the ascending line that goes E, F, G, A, which packs an emotional punch. It tends to sound plain without them, and it doesn’t evoke the same level of emotion. This is a magical little chord progression that wouldn’t quite work without the C/E slash chord and the Fsus2 suspended chord. Like I said, it’s a chord progression with a lot of potential, and it sounds suspenseful in all the right ways. You can also keep the chords, and layer a constant harmony over top (like a repeating riff), and that can produce an emotional effect too. You can leave the first two strings open the whole time, so if you’re playing fifth string roots, it makes the IV chord a sus2, followed by a sus4, m7, and finally a big 5 (power chord). But it becomes suspenseful once more as you change to the vi, and the I followed by the vi, instead of sounding like a major chord, just sounds like an inversion of the vi (and it sort of is).įor guitarists, there’s something quite magical you can do with this chord progression in the key of E. The suspense comes from the first chord in the progression being the IV rather than the I, and it naturally wants to resolve to the V. And in some ways, it takes after the chorus in Mr. This is a dramatic sounding chord progression with plenty of potential. Think about how the progression fits in with the rest of the song before employing it. If you want this chord progression to come across as sad, then be sure to pick your moments and play it slowly. So, beware of playing this progression fast! It’ll just sound like a punk song, which all tend to sound kind of happy. You might recall this specific progression from the chorus of The Penguins’ “Earth Angel.” And, upon first listen, it does have a pinch of sentimentality to it.īut there is a difference between “sad” and “slow,” and ballads like “Earth Angel” are often just slow with a happy chord progression (same thing could apply to The Pussycat Dolls’ “Stickwitu” – not sad, just slow). Try mixing up the order of these four chords yourself and you’ll see exactly what I mean. And in some ways, it is!īut that is the magic of music, that you can cover a lot(and I do mean a lot) of ground with just four chords. Lan Zhan is… handling it.Now, in a way, this is just going to seem like a reordering of the same chord progression you’ve already seen. "Who do I gotta fuck around here to get unplugged?" "Hey big guy," says Mo Xuanyu, chrome eyes sparkling with fun. No signals bouncing around its artificial brain, no operating programs queued to autostart. Lan Zhan tested it on his first pass through the room. Lan Zhan stops in front of one of the bespoke duplicates- a male figure, small, creamy-skinned and lithe. if you can call it that when it's set 500 years in the future.Lán Zhàn | Lán Wàngjī/Wèi Yīng | Wèi Wúxiàn.Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings.Travelingneuritis Fandoms: 魔道祖师 - 墨香铜臭 | Módào Zǔshī - Mòxiāng Tóngxiù, 陈情令 | The Untamed (TV) 4/30/2023 0 Comments Pine barrens sopranosGandolfini, bearish and balding at 37, New Jersey has found an unlikely sex symbol. The Great Falls of Paterson is both a beautiful and menacing backdrop for the mob goings-on. Each episode is peppered with references to pastry shops in Nutley, psychiatrists' offices in Montclair or formal wear places in Paramus. It's as much about New Jersey as it is about the mob. If that cult show was a Pacific Northwest riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma, ''The Sopranos'' is a suburban comedy wrapped in a mob drama inside a cannoli. In its 13 weeks, it has touched off the kind of enthusiasm among hip audiences that ''Twin Peaks'' did nine years ago. The series, which is shot on location in areas well known to its creator, David Chase, and its star, James Gandolfini, both from New Jersey, is the highest-rated drama on cable. Concluding its first season with tonight's operatic finale, the show tells the story of a Prozac-popping Mafia don and his two families - his blood relatives and his bloodthirsty cohorts. But more than anything, what has put New Jersey on top lately is the HBO series ''The Sopranos,'' which has taken off like a Trans Am down the parkway. It is about two middle-aged buddies who never sought to leave the New Jersey town where they grew up, which has struck it nouveau riche as the Dow cracks 10,000.Īll this from a state that ranks the Shop Rite ''Can-Can'' sale among its cultural traditions. Kevin Smith has lovingly explored slacker culture in his New Jersey movie trilogy, ''Clerks,'' ''Mallrats'' and ''Chasing Amy.'' Todd Solondz, whose production company is based in Red Bank, has made two films of suburban life, ''Welcome to the Dollhouse'' and ''Happiness,'' in which few characters may be enjoying the American Dream, but none believe that Manhattan has a lock on cool. ''New Jersey has gone from a private shame to a juggernaut,'' said the playwright Paul Rudnick, who grew up in Piscataway. These works recast New Jersey's little towns as Peyton Places with secrets in every cupboard, and they raise the question: If the suburbs are so boring, why is this stuff so fascinating? They’re really great for assessing understanding during lessons and also having students reflect on their own learning. The full page posters and desk strips are all in my Assessing Understanding pack if you want to use these in your own classroom. Another thing the worksheets also have is a self-reflection at the bottom where the student evaluates how they felt about the activity – was it too easy? Just right? Too hard? After they complete the worksheet, they circle at the bottom like this: The majority of the worksheets in my math units come in 3 levels for each concept – each one has a star in the upper right corner that says the level (A, B, or C) so you can easily give students the level that challenges but doesn’t frustrate them so they’re all working on the same thing but at their level. One easy way to differentiate is to use the different levels of worksheets (or centers) in my math units. Differentiating is really important to me – not just for your struggling students but for your advanced students as well like I talked about in my How to Keep Gifted Kids Engaged and Learning post. It also has tips for how to differentiate your place value lessons. I used to use foam ones but I like the durability of the plastic ones so that’s what these are.ĭefinitely read my Place Value in First Grade post if you want more fun place value ideas and to see the resources from my place value unit in action! I got a big set of plastic base ten blocks that I use – I think it’d work to stick magnets on the foam ones too but I’m not sure. Another way I use them goes along with the next trick of sticking magnets to the back of base ten blocks to practice place value. I use the number cards for centers all year. I have a lot more fun classroom management tips in my Chatty Class Classroom Management post and 20 Classroom Management Strategies You Can Start Right Away post if you want more behavior management ideas! Maybe they get a small reward for getting 10 in a row (when you’re using the 100 chart) like half an hour of free choice centers or something fun like that. More fun things you can do is have them get something for finishing a row or column like I said above. If you have one of those awesome pocket charts that is specifically for displaying the 100 chart, you can also use that and just have as many numbers as you want to practice in it. You can get a lot of great math talk out of it! Even just have them turn to a partner and ask each other questions about it. You can also ask them what number they need to finish a row, count by 5s, etc. to figure it out so it’s great number sense practice. They’ll have to look at the numbers before/after/above/below/etc. You can also incorporate learning by pointing to a flipped over number and asking them what it is. It’s great because it really gets them looking at the numbers and talking about them (“We only need to get 42 and 45 to finish that row!”). Once they get the awesome reward, they’ll want it again so you can do the number chart up to 50 this time! I recommend doing it up to 50 a few times. When they flip all the number cards over, they get the reward! You could also have them earn mini rewards for completing a row or column. He’d show it to you then you’d flip that number over. OR during class, let’s say a group is working so quietly and well together during centers, say something like, “Wow, the blue table is working so hard and are so quiet right now – Aiden, you can go pick a number card.” He’d go up to the stack of number cards by the chart and pick a card. teacher says they were really good, whatever, tell them they’ll get to pick a number when you get back in class. When the class gets a compliment for walking nicely in the hallway or the P.E. Also print a second set of number cards, mix them up, and stack them upside down near the chart. So, first, pick a reward that the class can earn that they’re really excited about (my favorite is an extra recess with popsicles) and have all the number cards showing in your pocket chart. So this shows 50 but I usually start with 20 cards for the first time so it’s a quicker reward and also to solidify numbers 1-20. 4/30/2023 0 Comments Dino squad episode 14Second, this saltasaurus must have the eyes of a hawk fusion-danced with an owl because it somehow saw this teeny tiny lizard in enough detail to think it was family when the saltasaurus is massive. They do have some lizards traits, but they’re not lizards. Salta didn’t exist back when the saltasaurus existed….They’re both lizards, so it followed it, thinking it was family.įirst of all, saltasauruses were not lizards. It’s not like the saltasaurus knew it was Salta anyway. Taylor explains this by claiming the saltasaurus was thinking the lizard was its family, since ‘saltasaurus’ literally translates to ‘lizard from Salta.’ Salta is the name of the town in South America where the fossils of saltasaurus were first found – information that has no bearing on this explanation whatsoever, but Dr. You may be wondering things like ‘What?’ and ‘Huh?’ĭr. They find a lizard that Max found a few minutes prior to the saltasaurus chasing him and deduce that the saltasaurus was after the lizard, not Max. Max: “You fought so hard, you turned back into a card.” So, it’s probably a good idea to leave him in that state to rest, then, righ– Rex: “Yeah, he clobbered that saltasaurus!” You’re awful happy about an innocent herbivore dinosaur getting its ass whupped. Chomp died and the saltasaurus did a victory transformation into a card. Zoey: “Did Chomp win?” No….No….he didn’t. *the saltasaurus gets defeated and turns into a card* Max and Chomp fight the saltasaurus despite being reunited with Zoey and Rex. Chomp is suddenly able to hear Max yell out for it. Chomp fights a crocodile, which is simultaneously the most interesting thing in this episode and yet, still, somehow boring. The saltasaurus starts chasing Max for seemingly no reason – we’ll get to that in a sec. The saltasaurus manages to get away because Spiny randomly lost its energy. They just leave their dinosaurs in their cards and spectate this innocent dinosaur getting attacked by evil people. The Alpha Gang fight the saltasaurus with Spiny….Zoey and Rex just….watch. Nice to see some responsible kids nowadays – what the hell is happening to me?”Īnyway….*lip smack* This episode is boring as buckets and as stupid as the last thing on Twitter that made you really angry. At least Zoey and Rex were smart enough to put their dinos in their card forms to ensure they don’t lose them. You’re in the Amazon rainforest, not the park.” There’s a reason the buddy system exists, guys. *About 30 seconds later* Me: “Actually, now that I’m thinking about it, they really should have stopped off to get vaccinations too.” They should be more properly prepared before making these trips so they stay safe.” *Max’s dad tries to give him all sorts of supplies for keeping him safe in the Amazon (barring the stupid ‘this one stops bad breath’ one)* *the supplies don’t make it through the transporter for some reason* Me: “Oh that’s a shame. 4/30/2023 0 Comments Smash bros palette swapThe colors are closely matched, and seeing that it was the last incarnate of Link represented in Smash Bros and Zelda has a costume mimicking her previous counterparts, I think it’s likely that this is the same deal. It’s more of a teal color with a beige undershirt which, while it could be a reference to the first two Zelda games, I believe is a reference to his Twilight Princess design. In addition to this, Dark Link is also back with his pitch-black appearance, white hair, and glowing, red eyes. With Link’s startling white eyes and tribal-like face paint, Fierce Deity Link is back! A little less detailed than in the 3DS and WiiU version, seeing as Link’s Tunic of the Wild isn’t as armored as his Twilight Princess appearance, but the effort is absolutely appreciated by Majora’s Mask fans everywhere. Let’s start off with an easier one that everyone is sure to recognize. We’re not done yet as we’ve still got Link’s Tunic of the Wild alternatives. While the Wii U and 3DS versions of Smash went a little further into detail, recreating the exact blue pattern and including his red sash, it’s nice to see that this costume was at least not forgotten to time (like how I believe his Ordon outfit was. The white color scheme with blue trim is sure to be a reference to Link’s Skyloft outfit that he begins Skyward Sword with. We jump on over to Skyward Sword for this next Champion Tunic recolor. Ah, if only they could have included his little beret.Īll those in favor of getting the official uniform in Smash say “I.” Even the shield is black and red in reference to the royal gear you can obtain in Hyrule Castle. It has gold trim, white gloves, and red undersleeves, which is a clear reference to his Royal Guard uniform that can be obtained through Breath of the Wild’s DLC. The next one is his deep-blue Champion’s Tunic. The color scheme is spot-on, even down to the blue sleeves he wears underneath. The red-colored tunic is a reference to the Hylian Tunic, a basic costume that’s found pretty early on in Breath of the Wild. I will say though, even though I don’t use the Champion’s tunic all that much, it does have some nice alternations. This outfit is the iconic green tunic found in Breath of the Wild after completing every shrine and is much more similar to Link’s past green garbs. Luckily, if you’re a goofball like me and have trouble distinguishing your pretty blond-haired, blue-eyed hero from the rest (you have no idea how many times I made this mistake while fighting Shulk), Link’s first alternate costume is the Tunic of the Wild. Seriously, whenever I play as him dressed in this, I keep confusing him for another character and somehow wander off-screen. Link represents the latest installment to the franchise and is dressed in the blue Champions Tunic - which I will never get used to. This time around, instead of all the characters sharing the same title look, such as Ocarina of Time in Melee and Twilight Princess in Brawl, they each represent a different Zelda game with their default appearances. From time to time, we’ll also look at Nintendo’s past to unearth some facts about our favorite company. In our studies, we’ll explore each game’s development, curiosities within the rich lore of the franchise, and the impact it has had on our culture. Zelda’s Study is a series where we examine the history of The Legend of Zelda to bring you some fascinating (or just plain weird) trivia. This paper expands the topography of contexts in which research on hip hop and religion takes place by investigating the ways in which video game engines and video editing software are used by game players to produce films within virtual environments. Or, playing off from post-Heidegger or postcolonial definitions of worlding, we would offer this summarizing definition: "WORLDING (v) - a historical process of taking care, setting limits, entering into, & making world-horizons come near & become local, situated, in/formed, cared for instantiated as an uneven/incomplete material-cultural process of world-making and world-becoming." In one compressed verb 'worlding' means building-up the life-world that is, actively worlding it. The former process (deworlding) suggests enduring impacts of empire, colonialism, and turbo-capitalism upon other life-worlds and threatened ways of being. Worlding-as-projection is still shadowed by residual forces and forms of 'deworlding,' as well as stands opposed to those called (by Tsing and Haraway et al) 'reworlding': that is to say, energies and practices of going and coming, breaking down and building up life-worlds. Worlding stands for a range of alter-globalization and situated localization practices being projected forward out into and across the everyday world that is riddled and driven by mandates of capitalist dynamism and globalization. “Worlding” (as I phrased it in the “Afterword: Worlding as Future Tactic” to Worlding Project) means at once a mode of “building up a life-world palpably disclosing its lived-in modalities, boundaries, tactics, and historical processes” of survival and emergence. Worlding is not so much a theme or subject as it is a tactic or a practice or projection of world-making, projecting forth, and life-world becoming and building-up to use a Goethe-like word for cultural formation. It is in this political-ethical sense of lived culture that co-editors Christopher Connery and I had deployed “worlding” to enact a stipulated cultural-political-creative ethos or tactic of situated opposition to the telos of globalization, in our co-edited collection The Worlding Project: Doing Cultural Studies in the Era of Globalization.
